East Coast Museum of Technology – History
The museum’s humble beginnings started in October 1969 when a group of tech enthusiasts decided to contribute a display of technology at the Cook Bicentennial Celebrations. The group was then integrated as a display for the Gisborne Museum and Arts Centre, housed at the back of the museum in a barn.
Through a series of moves and expansions over many years, the East Coast Museum of Technology stands alone today with a growing collection of Gisborne’s rich history.
Experience the East Coast Museum of Technology – Live Day! November 19, 2017
Once a year, Gisborne’s East Coast Museum of Technology hosts a Live Day, where the museum revs up some of the old machinery and much more! Spray the firehose, take a ride in an old army vehicle, thresh some grain, and play some ping pong. These hands-on experiences bring history to life and are a fantastic way to spend an afternoon.
