Geocaching in New Zealand – Join the Worldwide Treasure Hunt!
Do you have a smart phone or GPS? If so, you’ve got access to a FREE worldwide treasure hunt! Geocaching in New Zealand is a great way to explore the natural, beautiful surroundings and is something that singles, couples and families of all ages can all participate in.
What is Geocaching?
Geocache players have hidden various boxes, objects, or other interesting finds in nature for other players to find. Some caches may be more difficult to find than others, but know that caches will never be buried (please don’t disturb the land).
Geocaching in New Zealand – Where Do I Start?
To begin finding caches in your area, you must first sign up for a free account on the official Geocaching Website. On the website, you’ll find a list of caches that are in your area with their GPS coordinates. Plug the coordinates into your GPS device or smart phone and you’re on your way to geocaching in New Zealand!
What Do I Do with the Cache?
Once you find the cache, open the box or container, look through the item(s) and sign the log book. Congratulations! You’ve found your first cache! Some caches allow you to trade out items inside. If you take something out of the cache, be sure to replace it with something of equal or greater value for the next person to find. You can also log your find on the geocaching website.
